Career and Technology Foundations


Career and Technology Studies (CTS) and Knowledge and Employability (K&E) pathways build on the Career & Technology Foundations (CTF) inquiry-based, hands-on studies for Grades 5–9. CTS involves five main clusters composed of occupational areas with industry commonalities. 


At Arbour Lake CTF is Organized in the Following Manner


Natural Resources

Natural Resource students will learn about the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources. Students will develop motivation and commitment to work towards the conservation and responsible use of air, energy, forests, land, water, and wildlife.  

Examples of previous courses: Where does your food come from? Water and Wildlife, Living Wall, Community Garden, Winter Resources   


Business

Students learn the attitudes, skills, and knowledge needed in order to implement efficient systems and strategies of management and marketing. The business cluster also includes the effective use of electronic technologies to collect, structure, manipulate, retrieve, and communicate information.  

Examples of previous courses: Digital Communications, Photography, Marketing / Advertising, Sports Journalism, Film Studies,  Money Matters, Computer Programming   


Design Studies and Technology

Students will create and test prototypes they produce using a 3D printer, laser cutter and robotic components. 


Human Services - Active

Students develop and apply important attitudes, skills, and knowledge to provide care and services to people in a variety of industries and contexts, such as health care, recreation and the legal system.  

Examples of previous courses: Rec Leadership, Sports Med, Travel and Tourism, Personal Trainer, Nutrition for Athletes, Balance   


Human Services - Creative 

Students develop and apply important attitudes, skills, and knowledge to provide care and services to people in a variety of industries and contexts, such as cosmetology, the food industry, and the fashion industry system.  

Examples of previous courses: Fashion, Foods, Sewing
