Good afternoon,

I hope you’ve all had a great week. Thank you to the parents that joined us on Tuesday for our School Council meeting. I reviewed the results from our Planning Engagement Survey with parents in attendance at this meeting, and if you did not make it, these results are now posted on our school website as well and you can find them here: https://arbourlake.cbe.ab.ca/community-engagement

In February I shared with families that due to increased enrollment, Arbour Lake School’s enrollment status for 2024-2025 was changed to “closed.” This means we will not be accepting transfer requests from students outside of our designated area (Arbour Lake, Citadel, and Hawkwood). Our enrollment for 2024-2025 was projected at 844. However, since then, we have received notification that one of our two specialized mental health programs, “The Class,” is being closed. Parents and students in this program were notified of this change earlier this week. While it does not impact any of our current students, as all students remaining at ALS in grades 7-9 and in The Class for next year will have a placement, it does change our projected enrollment which is now 829 students in grade 6-9. Our specialized programs do provide for a rich and diverse learning community which reflects our world at large and which supports students in understanding that both our commonalities and differences are valued in an inclusive learning environment. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need any clarification around this change or any other factors going into next year’s planning.

There are a few new announcements below, so please review them. Please also be reminded that tomorrow is System Professional Learning Day, so while teachers will be at work, students do not have any classes. We wish you all a great long weekend!

Sincerely,

Nancy Lisi, Principal (Nmlisi@cbe.ab.ca)

Arbour Lake School Annual Spring Dance | May 23rd

The ALS ImPACt Team is proud to announce the theme of the 2024 Annual Spring Dance: Hollywood! The dance will take place on Thursday, May 23rd from 6:30 to 8:30 and all students are welcome to attend. Doors to the event will open at 6:20 and close at 6:45. Tickets are $5 and students will get a snack and drink with entry. Additional food will also be available at the dance. Also, prizes will be awarded during the dance. For the next four weeks, tickets will be on sale during the first half of lunch in the gathering space. Students who wish to purchase tickets before the event will gain express entry on the night of the event. However, tickets are also available on the night of the dance. Students are encouraged to dress for the red carpet, but we also know that Adam Sandler is a Hollywood favourite, and he gets along just fine in t-shirts and baggy shorts. We look forward to a fun-filled night in May!
