Dear Arbour Lake School families,

It has been a somber week at Arbour Lake School. As we continue to navigate our own loss, last night’s tragic events in Tumbler Ridge, BC have left many of us with heavy hearts. These moments remind us to hold our families and loved ones close as we think of those impacted and extend our sincere condolences to all who are grieving. I also want to thank all of you for your support this week. Each email and call we’ve received has been greatly appreciated.

I would like to reiterate the message shared by the Calgary Board of Education earlier today. The safety and well-being of our students remains at the forefront of everything we do at ALS. Please take time to review the resources sent earlier this week and again today by the CBE to support conversations with your child, should they have questions or need support.

On a more joyful note, this week our homerooms took time to collectively come together to decorate their classroom doors in honour of Valentine’s Day. The theme of love and kindness came through clearly in all creations. Congratulations to Ms. Gedelman’s Homeroom taking the win in grades 6 and 7 and Mr. Jang’s Homeroom for taking the top spot in grades 8 and 9. Stay tuned to our Instagram account for pics of the winning doors and all the amazingly creative submissions! Happy Valentine’s Day to you all!

A reminder that school is closed tomorrow and Friday for Teachers’ Convention, and we will also remain closed on Monday for Family Day. I hope this extended weekend provides time to rest and to spend meaningful time with those closest to you.

School Council will meet virtually on Tuesday, February 17 at 6:30 pm. A meeting link will be sent out Tuesday for those wishing to join.

Wishing you a restful weekend. As always, if you need to reach me, please email.

Best regards,

Dr. Nancy Lisi
