Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we head into the weekend, I hope the recent rainfall has helped ease the smoky conditions we experienced earlier this week. With any luck, we can look forward to enjoying some clear skies and warm spring weather in the days ahead.
A quick update regarding our school-wide floor hockey tournament: due to unforseen circumstance, we have had to postpone the event originally planned for this week. Students who registered and paid can come to the office for a refund. We are pleased to share that the tournament has been rescheduled for December 2025, and we look forward to hosting a great event at that time.
As many of you are aware, our Grade 6 and Grade 9 students are currently in the midst of writing their Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs). Next week will be particularly busy and potentially tiring for these students. We understand that some families have expressed concerns about the value and impact of these assessments. While we appreciate the range of perspectives on this issue, please note that PATs are mandated by the Alberta government and, as a public school, we are required to administer them in accordance with provincial legislation. Our approach to assessment remains consistent with our school philosophy: to support student learning and prepare them for a variety of assessment experiences, including the PATs.
Looking ahead, next week is Spirit Week! Please see the schedule below for daily themes. We hope students will participate and help end the year on a high note. Please also see important messages below in reference to next year planning.
Wishing you all a restful and enjoyable weekend. As always, if you have any questions or need to connect with me directly, I can be reached at nmlisi@cbe.ab.ca.
Warm regards,
Nancy Lisi Principal,
Arbour Lake School
