Dear Arbour Lake School Families,
We are officially entering the final week of the 2025–2026 school year. It is hard to believe how quickly the year has passed.
As we move into next week, our staff will continue working hard to keep students engaged in meaningful learning while also creating intentional opportunities for students to reflect on the year, celebrate their accomplishments, and enjoy time together as a school community. Throughout the week, students will participate in a variety of year-end activities, including trips to the movies, visits to Arbour Lake, community walks, and other grade-level celebrations.
Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs) will conclude on Tuesday. I would like to thank our students for their efforts throughout the examination period and our staff for supporting them every step of the way.
A few important dates to note:
▪ June 25 – Report cards become available to families on PowerSchool.
▪ June 26 – Last day of school for students.
▪ June 29 (8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.) – Final grade appeal appointments. Please note that appointments must be booked in advance if you wish to appeal a final grade.
This afternoon, our teachers are dedicating time to the important work of creating homeroom placements for next year. Next week, grade teams will also engage in transition meetings to ensure that the teachers receiving students next year have a strong understanding of each learner's strengths, needs, and successes. These conversations help ensure that students are set up for success from the very first day of school. (This work was completed earlier in the year for our Grade 9 students as they transition to high school.)
As we prepare for next year, I also have several staffing updates to share. First, we would like to thank and congratulate several staff members who will be moving on to new opportunities:
▪ Mr. Andrew Crabbe will be joining Bob Edwards School.
▪ Ms. Victoria Milligan will be joining Clarence Sansom School following her maternity leave. We would also like to congratulate Victoria and her husband on the upcoming arrival of their baby this September.
▪ Mr. Kyle Schrader will be moving to McKenzie Highlands School.
▪ Ms. Jenna Laser will be pursuing her next placement within the CBE, and we wish her every success as she begins the next chapter of her career.
▪ Ms. Emily Fischer has accepted a job-share position at Dr. Freda Miller School. We wish Emily all the best as she balances her professional pursuits with the joys and demands of parenting.
I would also like to take a moment to recognize Ms. Carla Samuelson, who has made the decision to retire. Carla has been a valued member of the Arbour Lake School community for many years, and her contributions to our students, families, and staff have been significant. We will miss her dearly. We wish her nothing but happiness as she begins this exciting new chapter, which includes spending time on Vancouver Island and travelling throughout Europe next fall. Thank you, Carla, for your years of dedicated service to Arbour Lake School and the Calgary Board of Education.
At the same time, we are excited to welcome several staff members to our team for the 2026–2027 school year:
▪ Ms. Ali Pedersen returns to Arbour Lake School and will be joining our Grade 7 team.
▪ Ms. Kenna Williams returns in her role as Classroom Complexity Teacher. ▪ Ms. Emily McKeon returns from maternity leave and will be joining the Grade 7 team.
▪ Ms. Jenny Le joins us from Colonel Irvine School and will be teaching in Grade 8.
▪ Ms. Kari Sangster joins us from F.E. Osborne School and will be leading our complementary programs in Drama and Art.
▪ Ms. Simren Trehin joins us from F.E. Osborne School and will be teaching in Grade 9.
We are thrilled to welcome these talented educators to Arbour Lake School and look forward to the experience, energy, and expertise they will bring to our students and community.
As we approach the end of another successful school year, I would like to thank all of our families for your continued support, partnership, and trust. Together, we have accomplished a great deal this year, and we are grateful for the opportunity to work alongside you in supporting your children.
Should you have any questions or require assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Warm regards,
Dr. Nancy Lisi
