Dear Parents and Guardians,
It has been another full and exciting week at Arbour Lake School, and I am pleased to share some of the highlights with you.
Our Grade 8 students returned from their two night camping trip to Pine Grove earlier this week. They had a fantastic time enjoying the outdoors, team-building, and learning through experience. Thank you to Mr. Samniotto for his thoughtful planning and coordination of this trip, and for his continued leadership in our Outdoor Education programming.
Wednesday was a particularly busy day. The annual AMA Patrol Picnic was held at Heritage Park to recognize the contributions of our student safety patrols. This year, 30 students committed their time each day to keep our crosswalks safe. I want to extend my sincere thanks to our patrols and to Mr. Gilson for supporting this program and for being out with the patrols each morning and afternoon, rain or shine.
Also on Wednesday, 92 students from Grades 6 through 9 represented Arbour Lake School at our Divisional Track and Field Meet. Our student-athletes performed well across a range of events and demonstrated excellent sportsmanship. Track and Field is a significant school-wide undertaking, and I am grateful to the many teacher sponsors and coaches who made this opportunity possible.
Today, over 30 students from Grades 6 through 9 are participating in the CBE Flag Football Tournament. This is the first time ALS has entered the tournament and we are pleased to have been able to send both a junior and senior team. Thank you to Mr. Maris, Mr. Cousin, Ms. MacDougall, and Ms. Rehman for preparing our teams and ensuring our students could take part in this exciting event.
Finally, a huge thank you to Ms. Tompkins, Ms. Sayed, and Mr. Hicks, along with the entire Grade 9 team, for organizing last night’s Grade 9 Farewell celebration. We are also grateful to all the staff and families who attended the celebration. While not a formal graduation, Farewell is an important milestone. It gives us the chance to honour our students’ journeys and reflect on the time they’ve spent with us, along with their growth and successes over the years. We also want to thank YYC Food Trucks for supporting the event, and Willow Cake and Bake for providing the desserts for our student dinner and dance.
Once again, I want to extend heartfelt best wishes to our Grade 9s. They have been a pleasure to work with over the past five years, and we cannot wait to see what the future holds for them. They are a remarkable group of young people, and we will miss them dearly.
With just three weeks left in the school year, the number of events and important dates remaining is significant. Please take a moment to review the list of upcoming dates below to help organize your busy schedules alongside the many exciting things happening at school in the weeks ahead.
As per usual, if you need anything at all, please do not hesitate to reach out. You can readily contact me at nmlisi@cbe.ab.ca. I wish you all a wonderful weekend!
Warm regards,
Nancy Lisi
