Dear Arbour Lake School families,

What a busy week we've had!

On Tuesday, we attended the track and field meet for our division. We are proud to announce that many of our student-athletes finished in the top three, with several more placing in the top four across a variety of events. A big thank you to our dedicated coaches for their time and effort in making this a success.

Thursday was our Sports Day, and it was a tremendous success. Special thanks to the Grade 9 leadership team and Mr. Smaniotto for their hard work in planning and executing the event for all the other students. Taking the time to lead and ensure others can participate is a significant sacrifice, and we know they would have rather been playing themselves. They did an excellent job, and we are grateful for their efforts.

Additionally, our Grade 6 students had an educational trip to the Military Museum, enriching their understanding of our nation's history. Our patrols enjoyed a fun-filled picnic at Heritage Park yesterday, which was a well-deserved reward for their hard work throughout the year.

Finally, today we celebrated Grade 9 Farewell. Thank you to our teachers for organizing the send-off, and to the parents for attending and sharing in our celebration as we send this amazing group of students off to high school. This is the first Grade 9 cohort that I have had the pleasure of watching progress all the way through Arbour Lake School over the past five years. I have many fond memories of them, and I hope they carry some wonderful memories of their time at ALS with them. We wish them all the best in their future endeavors!

As we wrap up this school year, please pay close attention to emails from us next week; on Monday or Tuesday, we will be sending out complementary course selection details for students in grades 6-8. For those of you with younger students at Hawkwood School or Citadel School, we will also be asking them to send out the same information to our grade 5 students moving into grade 6.

The next few weeks promise to be rather busy ones for us. Please look at our important dates to stay informed about upcoming events and activities. I wish everyone a wonderful weekend. As always, please feel free to contact me via email anytime if you need anything.

Warm regards,

Dr. Nancy Lisi, Principal

HR Class Composition 2024-2025 – Peer Requests

As has been mentioned previously we feel strongly that student input and voice is important when determining class placements for the next year. It can often make a huge difference in entering a new class if students have at least one other person they feel connected to, and we may not fully understand or know who those individuals may be for each student.  So, we give them this chance to weigh in! Students will be asked to select 4 peers with whom they work well in class. We will work to ensure that students have at least ONE of the noted peers. Students are asked to select 4 different peers. When they name the same peer 4 times, this does not increase the chances of them being with that person.

Additionally, Parents are asked to reach out directly to Dr. Lisi if there are any peer interactions, concerns, etc. that we need to be made aware of as we start the work of creating next year’s homerooms.

Messages from School Council

Teen Triple P Seminars

Arbour Lake School Council is happy to share a learning opportunity presented for parents and caregivers of Arbour Lake School students. In collaboration with the Trellis Family Resource Network, we have the opportunity to host three seminars aimed at supporting skill development in parenting our teenagers. The teenage years are a time of tremendous change and development for our children and can sometimes be difficult to navigate as we are helping our teens move through puberty, friendships, other relationships, academics, and all the things in between.

We are excited to share these learning opportunities to support and engage our school parent/caregiver community and hope you are able to join us. The attached poster has additional information on each seminar. Please save the date for May 14th, 28th, and June 18th. Teams Virtual event invitations to follow.
