Good afternoon Arbour Lake School Families,

We had a great turn out at our Open House last night despite the snow. Thank you to those of you that came to visit, it is always nice to chat with parents, and I think it is so important that parents have opportunities to come see what we are doing with our students and provide us with your thoughts and feedback – whatever it may be J. Huge thank you to Ms. Skjerpen and all our staff who supported in ensuring we were able to showcase our school to current and prospective families. Big thanks to our students who performed and participated in learning showcases, and special thank you to our Leadership students and PAC students for their work as embassadors of our school. I would also like to thank our School Council Executive who were also in attendance. The support of our Council is vital in the operations of our school and the Executive is looking for parents to join their efforts for the 2024-2025 school year. They will be holding an AGM later this spring, so stay tuned to our annoucments for dates, times, and ways you can get invovled with School Council.

As we move forward into the planning stages for 2024-2025, it would be helpful for us to know which current students will not be returning to ALS next year. Of course we know that our grade 9s will be moving on to high school, and our students living in Scenic Acres are transitioning to their new designated school (unless we have heard otherwise from you J) however we know that there are other families that also have alternate plans for next year and it would be very helpful to have this information as soon as possible.

If your child is currently scheduled to return to Arbour Lake School next year, but you know that they will not be returning, please use this link to share your intentionshttps://forms.gle/XvbybR3qvQci3R21A

Next Tuesday, March 5th at 6:30PM is the final parent meeting for grade 9 students attending the Sailing Trip. The grade 7 Natural Resources students will also be going on a Snowshoeing field trip (we are getting lost of snow this weekend to make this great fun) and finally, grade 7s will have a guest speaker who has been working with the grade 7s over the past few weeks to bring their learning to life through rap music. We will try to share out their creations when they are complete. Stay tuned!

Finally I am excited to share that after an extensive search through which many candidates were considered and interviewed, Ms. Blessy Mathew will be starting with us on March 11, 2024. Ms. Mathew will be working with our Grade 6 Team to provide targeted support in numeracy and literacy to our Grade 6 students. Ms. Mathew comes to us from Willow Park School and has a very strong background in mathematics and an equally strong understanding of literacy. We are fortunate to have her join our team and cannot wait for her to start working with our students.

Let’s hope that the saying “In like a lion and out like a lamb” is true for March 2024! Stay safe and warm out there this weekend and please reach out if there is ever anything with which I can assist you.

Sincerely,

Nancy Lisi, Principal

Announcements & Reminders:

Student Fees

Throughout the school year, students participate in off-site activities and learning enhancement opportunities that may require that parents pay a fee. We are aware that there are times and circumstances that arise that make paying these fees a challenge to families. Please know we are here to support our students and that it is important to us that students are able to take advantage of these learning opportunities, specifically those full class/grade activities. If families do find themselves struggling to pay our school-based fees, please reach out to Ms. Lisi at nmlisi@cbe.ab.ca. There are possibilities, options, and plans that we can create together to ensure students are able to participate in these activities.

Grade 9 Market – March 14th

The Arbour Lake Market is happening on Thursday, March 14th!  While working toward mastery of various learning outcomes within the Grade 9 Programs of Study, Grade 9 students have been busy at work creating a variety of products to sell to students at the school.  Students will have a chance to come to the gym on March 14th to purchase products.  All proceeds will be going to the Cancer Society.  If your child would like to purchase items please send cash with your child.
