Good afternoon everyone,

As Teacher Appreciation Week unfolds, I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to our remarkable teachers. Their dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment to our students shape not just their minds but their futures. To those parents and students who took the time to send in messages of appreciation, your kindness means more than you know. We are truly fortunate to have such an incredible staff here at Arbour Lake School. Additionally, I extend a warm thank you to the School Council for the thoughtful gesture of providing muffins, bagels, and fruit. Your generosity is greatly appreciated and truly enriches our school community.

This past week, our school community had the pleasure of experiencing the wonderful production of Mean Girls Jr. It was an outstanding performance that showcased the incredible talent and dedication of our students, both on stage and behind the scenes. I want to extend a huge thank you to each and every student who participated, pouring their hearts and souls into bringing this production to life. Additionally, I am immensely grateful to our devoted team of educators—Ms. Caron, Mr. Crabbe, Ms. Laird, Ms. Sayed, Mr. Eygenraam, and Ms. Grayston—for their tireless efforts and countless hours spent supporting our students throughout the entire process. Your guidance and encouragement have been invaluable. I also want to express my appreciation to our families and friends who attended the performances, showing their unwavering support and helping to create a sense of community within our school. Thank you all for contributing to the success of this memorable event.

Next week promises to be an exciting time at our school! We eagerly anticipate welcoming the Grade 5 students from Citadel and Hawkwood Schools for their school tours. It's always a joy to meet our future coyotes and to see the first cohort of incoming students from our feeder schools since fall 2022. Additionally, our Grade 8s will embark on a field trip to the Glenbow later in the week. Meanwhile, The Class students will participate in an equine field trip with ROARR. Finally, as we prepare for the Grade 9 Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs) starting next week, it's important to acknowledge the potential stress that these assessments can bring to our students. However, it's crucial to remind them that while these tests are a measure of their academic performance, they do not define them as people!

Sunday is Mother’s Day, and I want to extend warm wishes and heartfelt gratitude to all the incredible moms and mother figures in our community. Whether you're a biological mom, a stepmom, an adoptive mom, a grandmother, an aunt, or any adult, frankly, taking on the nurturing role of a mother, Sunday is a celebration of you and the love, care, and guidance you provide each day. Your selflessness, strength, and unwavering support shape our lives in countless ways. Thank you for all that you do, today and every day. Wishing you a Mother's Day filled with love, joy, and appreciation. You truly deserve it.

Please be reminded that Friday, May 17, is a Professional Learning (PL) day, and students will not have classes. I hope each of you has a wonderful weekend, please reach out at any time if there’s anything you need.

Sincerely,

Dr. Nancy Lisi, Principal

Parent Presentation – Responding to Substance Use

It is common for youth to have many new experiences as they age, including trying out substances such as alcohol or cannabis. With their minds and bodies still developing, substance use may lead to or affect physical or mental health. It is important to talk openly about substance use with your child. This session, hosted at Robert Thirsk High School, on May 14th at 7pm will provide you with tools and resources to have meaningful conversations with the youth in your life. Members of Community Health Promotion Services with Alberta Health Services are providing this session as a first step in developing a community response to substance use. To help us prepare the space for everyone interested, please RSVP.

Tickets are $5, and students will get a snack and drink with entry. Additional food will also be available at the dance. Also, prizes will be awarded during the dance. For the next four weeks, tickets will be on sale during the first half of lunch in the gathering space. Students who wish to purchase tickets before the event will gain express entry on the night of the event. However, tickets are also available on the night of the dance. Messages from School Council

Teen Triple P Seminars

Arbour Lake School Council is happy to share a learning opportunity presented for parents and caregivers of Arbour Lake School students. In collaboration with the Trellis Family Resource Network, we have the opportunity to host three seminars aimed at supporting skill development in parenting our teenagers. The teenage years are a time of tremendous change and development for our children and can sometimes be difficult to navigate as we're helping our teens move through puberty, friendships, other relationships, academics, and all the things in between.

We're excited to share these learning opportunities to support and engage our school parent/caregiver community and hope you're able to join us. The attached poster has additional information on each seminar. Please save the date for May 14th, 28th, and June 18th. Teams Virtual event invitations to follow.
