Good afternoon families,
I hope everyone has had a wonderful week and is looking forward to a restful and enjoyable long weekend ahead. As always, there has been a great deal happening at Arbour Lake School, and it continues to be wonderful seeing our students engaged in academics, athletics, activities, and community events as we move further into this very busy spring season.
Gauss Math Competition
We are pleased to share that over 50 students in grades 7 and 8 wrote the Gauss Math Competition on Tuesday, May 12 this past week. This is a great opportunity to practice problem solving and exam writing skills – way to go Coyotes!
Badminton
This week, our Grade 6 and Grade 7 badminton teams wrapped up their seasons, with the final tournament taking place this evening. Congratulations to all of our student athletes on a fantastic season and for representing ALS so positively throughout competition. A special congratulations goes out to our Grade 7 Girls Singles athletes for bringing home both 1st and 2nd place finishes. Well done!
Provincial Achievement Tests
There are many exciting events and activities coming up over the next few weeks. Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs) begin next week for our Grade 6 and Grade 9 students. We encourage students to continue attending regularly, getting a good night’s sleep, and doing their best. These assessments are just one measure of student learning and growth, and we know our students are well prepared.
Spring Dance
Next week is also our annual Spring Dance, “Welcome to Candyland,” taking place on Thursday, May 21 from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM. Admission is $5 at the door, which includes a drink and snack. Doors will remain open until 6:30 PM for entry. This has become a wonderful ALS tradition and we are looking forward to an evening filled with fun, music, and time with friends.
Grade 6 Lacrosse Residency
Our Grade 6 students will also be participating in the Elev8 Lacrosse program next week, which is always an engaging and exciting experience for students.
Annual Wellness Day – May 27
Another important upcoming event is our Annual Wellness Day on May 27. Families can stay tuned for sign up information and additional details in the coming days. Wellness Day is an opportunity for students to participate in a variety of activities focused on physical, emotional, social, and mental well being. The day is designed to encourage students to explore healthy lifestyles, build connections, try new activities, and celebrate the importance of balance and wellness in our everyday lives.
School Council AGM – May 19th 6:30PM In Person
Please also note that our School Council AGM will take place in person on Monday, May 19 at 6:30 PM. We encourage families to attend if able.
Peer Requests for 2026-2027
Finally, peer request forms for the 2026–2027 school year were sent home this week. We ask that families review these carefully with their child and ensure submissions are completed by May 22. While we cannot guarantee all requests, we are very thoughtful and diligent in our class placement process and appreciate families taking the time to complete these forms carefully and collaboratively with their child.
As always, please continue to monitor emails and review the important dates listed below, as May and June are absolutely jam packed with events, celebrations, field trips, transition activities, and year end opportunities for our students.
Please be remined that tomorrow is a non-instructional day – there are no classes and the school is closed on Monday, May 18 for Victoria Day.
Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support of Arbour Lake School. I hope you have a wonderful weekend. If you need anything, please feel free to reach out to me by email.
