Principal's Weekly Message- October 27, 2023
Good afternoon,
I hope this message finds you all doing well. As we are all aware, the weather has turned on us a bit and winter-like conditions have come a bit sooner than I’m sure most of us would like. I wanted to highlight for those parents new to Arbour Lake School that while we do open our doors a bit earlier than required by CBE, we do not open them before 7:50am so students arriving to school prior to this time will have to wait outside. It is really important that students are always dressed for the weather as so many take the bus and will find themselves outdoors for periods of time throughout the day. Additionally, all students do go outdoors for part of our lunch period. Please also know that we do not call an indoor lunch unless the temperature drops to -20 degrees.
Next week students can look forward to a Halloween activity put on by our grade 9 leadership school. They have created a bit of a Halloween experience through the design of a haunted house and activity to go along with it. I do hope student enjoy their hard work. I was asked today by one class around the expectations for Halloween and thought everyone would benefit from knowing what is expected at school for Halloween. Students are absolutely able to, and encouraged to dress up in costumes if they wish. When considering a costume, I would ask that families consider the following: please avoid dressing up in a costume that may be considered cultural appropriation; please also avoid props that are weapons and that could be mistaken for the real thing – obviously fake props are fine, however no type of fake handgun is permitted; and finally we would ask that students remember this is a school and they should be dressed appropriately for school including selecting school-appropriate costumes and ones that align with our dress code, that while not strict, does ask students to be appropriate in what body parts they reveal to others.
I hope you have a great weekend and please let me know if there’s anything you need.
Sincerely,
Nancy Lisi, Principal
