Principal's Weekly Message - Sept 21, 2023

Hello everyone!

I hope you’re all doing well! Our grade 7 Natural Resources students went on their first field trip off the year yesterday. They were in Bowness learning to canoe. Check out our social media sites for some pictures of their adventure!

As you know, our Athletics program is up and running. There is an administrator at each home event, and sometimes this administrator is a learning leader. Please know that our teachers and learning leaders do hold authority during school events to direct spectator (both students and adults) as to where they are able to view events and what behavior is acceptable during our athletic events. Unfortunately, we've had parents dismiss our administrators at events in the past week. We are asking all parents to kindly respect the direction of Arbour Lake School staff during sporting events. Regardless of whether they are on the field outside, our in the gym, these are school sanctioned events, not opened to the public, and under the full authority of school personnel. Please also know that in order to keep our events as safe and orderly as possible, we will be asking spectators, both adult and youth, to leave the game, if they are unable to comply with the direction and expectations of our staff. Thank you so much to those parents who are always so supprotive and helpful, we so appreciate the support and cooperation.

Thank you to all the parents that came out to our School Council AGM. It is always an honour to share the work that teaches are doing with students and to meet new parents.  Below is our new Executive for the 2023-2024 school year – thank you to each of you for agreeing to take on these important roles and thank you so much to our outgoing Chair Vicki Wallace! School Council meets on the third Tuesday of every month except December and January. We run a hybrid model at ALS and therefore run a combination of in-person and virtual meetings. We have been operating this way since the pandemic as we noted there is a greater turn out online, and received feedback from parents, that they enjoyed the option to tune in on-line but also to meet in person on occasion as well. The schedule is below.

Organized by our School Council, Arbour Lake School does offer “Fun Lunches” through Healthy Hunger. Parents can order lunch for their child in advance. It is delivered to the school on the noted date and distributed to students. If you’re interested in taking advantage of getting a break from making lunches occasionally this is a nice treat for parents and students. The link to sign up is below.  Please scroll down and select “Arbour Lake Middle School” – there are two schools with similar names, this is the one that takes you to our staff selection.
